Springbok scrumhalf Cobus Reinach has been forced into an early injury setback after undergoing surgery that will keep him out of action for the next few weeks.
Reinach sparked widespread attention on Monday when he posted a photo from a hospital bed on social media, accompanied by an upbeat caption: “Quick pit stop. Everything went well! Back in a bit.”

While the post initially raised questions, it’s understood the procedure was planned and scheduled during the current break in URC and Champions Cup action.
The veteran No.9 is believed to have had a groin hernia operation and is expected to spend around six weeks on the sidelines.
Injury concerns mounting for the Springboks
Reinach’s absence adds to a growing list of Springbok injury worries.
Frans Malherbe and Cameron Hanekom remain deep in rehabilitation, while Pieter-Steph du Toit, Lood de Jager and Faf de Klerk have also picked up serious injuries.
Malherbe and Hanekom are targeting a return before the end of the URC campaign, but Du Toit, De Jager and De Klerk are all expected to be out for at least a couple of months.
