Springboks fly-half handed four year ban with immediate effect

Springbok fly-half Elton Jantjies is facing a lengthy ban from rugby after being suspended for using the prohibited substance Clenbuterol.

Jantjies, who did not make the final cut for the 2023 World Cup squad, admitted in August to the June test results reported to the SA Institute of Drug-Free Sport (Saids). The official website of Saids announced a substantial four-year suspension for the beleaguered player.

The banned substance in question, Clenbuterol, is known for its fat-burning and asthma medication properties, enhancing stamina.

Although commonly used as a potent bronchodilator for asthma sufferers, it is also listed as an anabolic agent by the World Anti-Doping Agency and has been utilized by bodybuilders to reduce fat.

Despite Elton Jantjies vehemently denying the use of the substance, he requested a second B-sample test to prove his innocence. However, it appears that the second test also yielded positive results, leading Saids to impose a four-year suspension on the player.
