‘How much do you bench bro?’
One rep max bench presses are also a potentially dangerous exercise for contact sports athletes to attempt.
RugbyPass have put a list together of the bench press records of elite rugby players.
Here we look at, according to that list, the three strongest players to ever play for England.
BENCH-PRESS RECORD:
#4. Maro Itoje (Lock) - 187.5kg
18st 2lbs. 6ft 5in. Fast, strong, agile, intelligent and super fit. If The Pearl wasn't an elite rugby player, you'd half expect to see him crushing skulls in Lord of the Rings.
#3. James Haskell (Flanker) - 195kg
He is a gym rat whose workouts can be found on the web and Youtube. He benches over 400lbs and does not skip leg day either.
#2. Manu Tuilagi (Centre) - 200kg
He benches heavy and is an absolute animal on the field.
#1. Andrew Sheridan (Prop) - 225kg
The prop was known for his great physical strength – he is a near-elite class powerlifter and able to bench press 225 kilograms (35 st 6 lb; 496 lb) and squat 275 kilograms (43 st 4 lb; 606 lb).
Did you know: He is now a successful wine connoisseur in France
