LIST | Where is each home nations BEST youngster from 2010?

Here are the four players identified as exciting prospects for the home nations in an edition of Rugby World magazine.

What they said then: "The flanker, who has made 20 appearances for Ireland U20, looks like a world-class player in the making. The future is bright for Ireland."

What they've done since: Ryan, who'd win just one cap for Ireland announced his retirement in September 2018 due to concussion. After spending most of his career with Leinster, the forward hung up his boots at Leicester Tigers after one year at Welford Road. Disappointing.

Grade: C

What they said then: England are not exactly short of open-side flankers, with Steffon Armitage and the injured Tom Rees lying in wait if Lewis Moody's bravery rules him out at any stage. Surging up through the ranks, however, is a 21-year-old Saracen from suburban Essex with all the attributes to make a significant name for himself. 

What they've done since: The flanker continued to be on the cusp of the England set-up until he unfortunately dislocated his knee and missed the summer tour in 2011. Injury problems then prevented him from recapturing his fine form after joining Newcastle Falcons in 2013 and four frustrating years later he was hanging up his boots.

Saull now researches real estate at Oxford University as part of the Future of Real Estate Initiative after undertaking a Masters in Sustainable Urban Development.

Grade: D

What they said then: "Highly rated, teenage sensation Steven Shingler looks like the next Stephen Jones. Despite only being 19, he's showing all the maturity needed to become a world-class number 10."

What they've done since: This is a weird one. Long story short, Scotland tried to give the point-scoring machine his test debut in 2011 before Wales contested the call-up. Ultimately, the 19-year-old was barred from joining up with the Scots, but Wales never bothered playing him. Ended up just being a fuss about nothing. He's now playing in the Championship with Ealing following stints with Scarlets, Cardiff Blues and London Irish.

Grade: D

What they said then: "This Scotland team is terrible, conceding 134 points in the pool stage of the U20 championship sums up an awful year for the jocks. Their one standout player was Duncan Weir - he looks like a bright prospect.

What they've done since: The 29-year-old has been capped 28-times since his Scotland debut back in 2012, but only once since Gregor Townsend became head coach in the summer of 2017, as a late replacement against France earlier this year. A decade on, Weir finally has the chance to make the Scotland 10 shirt his own during the Autumn Nations Cup after injuries to Adam Hastings and Finn Russell. There's still time!
