Super League side Catalan Dragons have confirmed the signing of disgraced Wallabies fullback Israel Folau.
It was thought that he would never play professionally again following his highly-publicised sacking for homophobia.
Folau was dismissed by by Rugby Australia after he shared a ‘warning’ to ‘drunks, homosexuals and adulterers’ among others that they were going to hell.
However, the French club needed a centre urgently with the season series starting on Thursday, and have confirmed the signing today.
Catalans recently released Fiji international Brayden Wiliame to join St George Illawarra, so the club has been chasing a replacement.
Folau said: ““I understand the opinions expressed by the Super League and the Rugby Football League. I am a proud Christian, my beliefs are personal, I never intended to hurt anyone and I will no longer make any public comments about it.
“I look forward to my return to the fantastic sport of rugby league under the colors of the Catalan Dragons.”
