Saracens are lining up a move to bring exiled winger David Strettle back to England.
The Mail on Sunday and The Rugby Paper have reported that Mark McCall is ready to offer the prolific 34-year-old a deal at his former club when his contract with Clermont expires.
With the Top 14 enforcing minimum quotas on the number of French players, there could be an exile of foreign stars.
Ther former Rotherham Titans and Harlequins ace spent five seasons at Saracens before moving to Clermont four years ago.
Championship club Bristol have allegedly been in negotiations with the winger for months but have been unable to get a deal completed.
That has left the door open for Saracens to step in and steal the former England international, which would be a major blow for Pat Lam ahead of his sides, expected, return to the Premiership.
