GB Sevens stars linked with moves to Aviva Premiership

  • Aviva Premiership clubs seem to have caught the sevens bug following the Olympic Games
  • The Telegraph has linked two of team GB’s biggest names with moves to 15 aside clubs
  • Dan Bibby and England Sevens captain Tom Mitchell are the two linked with a move
Given the success of the British team at the Olympics, it doesn’t come as too much of a surprise to see a Premiership club attempt to convert at least one member of the squad.

However, the fact that one of these players is Tom Mitchell does come as a bit of a shock.

Fiji’s gold medal winning coach and former England chief, Ben Ryan, told the Belfast Telegraph that he believes Mitchell could make it at club or international level at inside centre.

“Tom has never played a game of XVs in his life and he is an absolute genius on the Sevens field. But he could be a terrific 12 at international and Premiership level, given the chance in XVs.”

The second player linked with a switch to the longer form of the game is Dan Bibby. However unlike Mitchell, Bibby has previously played XVs with Fylde in the English National League before joining the national sevens team in 2012.

Biddy’s pace and power are said to have attracted the interest of both Harlequins and Sale, with Sharks believed to be favourites to sign him.
