A rumour has surfaced in the French media suggesting that three-times British & Irish Lions coach Warren Gatland could be set for a stunning return to the Gallagher Premiership.
Bottom of the table Bath are reportedly keen to recruit the 58-year-old in some capacity after the club suffered their sixth consecutive loss, their worst losing run in the competition since 2002.
Due to the success of caretaker coaches this year, Gatland, who is under contract until 2023, has been shepherded into a new role overseeing the whole rugby operation at the Chiefs.
The report suggests he has the flexibility to walk away from the new role if he wishes to pursue other opportunities.
Gatland, who coached Wasps between 2002 and 2005, is thought to be in the running to replace Eddie Jones when he departs England following the 2023 Rugby World Cup.`
The Rugby Paper suggest the Rugby Football Union have sounded out Gatland and Rassie Erasmus about replacing the Aussie.
They further say there are rumours Gatland is “house-hunting in the Twickenham area ahead of a move to the capital, but it is understood nothing has been signed”.
