Tackling machine Jacques Burger went on to break Lewis Moody’s Premiership record for tackles made in one game when the Namibian openside made an astonishing 37 tackles away to Exeter Chiefs at Sandy Park. The Namibian international was the standout performer for his country at the 2007 World Cup in France with his performances in the 2011 tournament in New Zealand being equally impressive as he captained his country.

Jack Conan

  • Position: Lock
  • DOB: 29/07/1992 (age 23)
  • Current club: Leinster
  • Honours: Ireland A

Leinster lock Jack Conan may not have made his Ireland debut yet but he is very much in the reckoning to do so at the World Cup as he continues to be a part of Josef Schmidt‘s training squad. He only made his first senior start 16 months ago, however, has since been able to establish himself as a first-team regular at Leinster. He was one of only two uncapped players included in Schmidt’s extended Ireland rugby squad for the six nations championship in 2015 but failed to make an appearance.

  • DOB: 29/07/1989 (age 26)
  • Current club: Saracens
  • Previous clubs: Wildeklawer Griquas, Aurillac, Blue Bulls, Bulls

The South Africa international missed the remainder of the 2014/15 season after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee but has recently got back onto the field with some light training. The diminutive No9 has made two caps for the Springboks, making his debut against Scotland as a replacement in June 2013.

  • DOB: 29/07/1973 (age 42)

Versatile forward AJ Venter is a retired South Africa international, who represented the Springboks 25 times between 2000 and 2007. His final Test appearance was the perfect finale as it came against Australia in Johannesburg with the Springboks triumphing 24-16. He will be always remembered for in 2002, when along with Richie McCaw of New Zealand, he saved referee Dave McHugh from injury when a drunk South African fan ran onto the pitch and attacked him. Since retiring from rugby, he is now running his own business from Durban.
