Sale Sharks and England fly half Danny Cipriani has been charged with drink driving, police say.

The in-form Sharks man, who many believed to be harshly excluded from England’s 2015 World Cup squad, was arrested on the eve of the competition as his Mercedes and a Toyota were involved in a collision shortly after 5am on June 1.

The 28-year-old was taken to a police station after being breathalysed but was subsequently released on bail and he is thought to remain available to play for his club.

Scotland Yard confirmed he will appear at West London Magistrates’ Court on December 10.

A Metropolitan Police Service spokesman said: “Danny Cipriani, 28, of Grand Drive, SW20, has today, Thursday, 12 November, been charged with a drink drive offence, namely driving a motor vehicle with alcohol above the legal limit.”
