Ellie Kildunne’s brother becomes Sir Ian McGeechan’s latest signing

The younger brother of Red Roses superstar Ellie Kildunne has taken the next step in his rugby career after joining Doncaster Knights.

Sam Kildunne has linked up with the Championship outfit following his departure from Ampthill at the end of last season.

The 23-year-old winger has been named among the replacements for Doncaster’s pre-season clash with Newcastle, with the Knights confirming he is one of several new arrivals in line to make his debut.

His move sees him join an ambitious Doncaster set-up featuring two of the most experienced figures in English rugby.

British & Irish Lions legend Sir Ian McGeechan is part of the Knights hierarchy alongside former England boss Dean Richards, with the club targeting a route into the top flight.

Rugby runs in the family

Kildunne is the younger brother of England superstar Ellie, but has already built an impressive rugby CV of his own.

The former Loughborough Students player has represented both England Sevens and Great Britain Sevens, making his England debut in 2022.

He was also part of the Loughborough side that won its first BUCS Super Rugby title in 2024 before stepping up to Championship rugby with Ampthill.

Kildunne scored on his Ampthill debut against Cambridge in October 2025 and went on to make 17 appearances before his departure was confirmed at the end of the campaign.

He and Ellie have also represented Great Britain at the same event, with the siblings both featuring in Hamburg ahead of the Paris Olympics.

Ellie has since become one of the biggest names in the women’s game, helping England win the 2025 Rugby World Cup before joining Bristol Bears this summer.

Now Sam will be hoping to make his own mark after beginning the next chapter of his career with Doncaster.
