Emotional Tom Youngs leads Leicester Tigers out one last time

It was a special day at Welford Road yesterday with more than 20000 witnessing a memorable win, record achievement for Chris Ashton and deserving tribute to the career of Tom Youngs.

The Leicester Tigers captain, who announced his retirement with immediate effect earlier this week, led the team out one last time to a huge ovation.

The 35-year-old retires after making 215 appearances for Leicester Tigers, as well as gaining 28 Test caps for England and three for the British & Irish Lions.

He took indefinite leave from the club in October to care for his ill wife and last featured for Tigers in the Premiership last season.

After the game, Chris Ashton told Leicestershire Live: “I’ve played against Tom for many years, he said he never thought he’d see the day he saw me in a Leicester shirt,

“But times change, he knows that. I also said thank you to him, for what he did for the team. I’ve never been involved in anything as emotional as the teamtalk he provided for the team. It was inspiring.

“What he’s done for the club, what he’s gone through, for him to put this club first all the time, he’s just inspirational.”
