England held a 6-0 lead at half-time thanks to two penalties from Owen Farrell. Australia had Michael Hooper and Kurtley Beale sin-binned in the first half.

Winger Elliot Daly’s opening try for England was only given after a long deliberation as to whether the ball had hit the touchline.

Marika Koroibete thought he had levelled at 13-13 for Australia after 67 minutes, but it was chalked off for a very debatable obstruction.

A late Jonathan Joseph, Jonny May and Danny Care blitz secured victory.
