England prop Joe Marler diagnosed with leg fracture ahead of Six Nations

  • Joe Marler will miss at least half the Six Nations with a broken leg
  • The injury was diagnosed following an MRI scan
  • Marler joins Mako Vunipola on the sidelines
England prop Joe Marler is likely to be ruled out until at least midway through the 2017 Six Nations with a broken leg.

The 26-year-old Harlequins player pulled-up during the warm up of their match against Sale on Saturday, and may be sidelined for up to eight weeks.

England coach Eddie Jones has already lost prop, Mako Vunipola, for the start of the tournament because of a knee injury, meaning Ellis Genge of Leicester or Nathan Catt of Bath could earn their first cap.

Wasps prop Matt Mullan, who has won 13 caps, is also in the reckoning if Jones rather go with experience.

This is just the latest injury though for the Aussie after former captain Chris Robshaw has already been ruled out for the entire competition because he requires shoulder surgery, while No 8 Billy Vunipola is currently recuperating from a knee operation.

More to follow.
