England have retained 25 players ahead of their Six Nations opener
George Kruis suffered a knee injury in training on Tuesday
His Saracens second-row partner Maro Itoje is set to start in the back row
25 players have been retained by England to prepare for Saturday’s opening RBS 6 Nations fixture against France at Twickenham Stadium.
George Kruis (Saracens) will go for further medical assessment this morning (Wednesday 1 Feb) to determine the extent of a knee injury picked-up in training today.
Lock Maro Itoje has trained at blind-side flanker and is expected to fill the void vacated by Chris Robshaw, who continues to recover from shoulder surgery.
If coach Eddie Jones persists with his plan to field the 22-year-old on the flank, Northampton’s Courtney Lawes and Wasps Joe Launchbury will pair up in the second row if Kruis is unavailable.
Wing Jack Nowell missed training, but is understood to be fully fit and available for selection.
