England team to play South Africa: Autumn Nations Series

Eddie Jones has named his England team to play South Africa ahead of their clash at Twickenham on Saturday.

The Aussie has named Harlequins three-quarter Joe Marchant on the wing to face South Africa. It will be Marchant’s first appearance of the autumn. Manu Tuilagi and Henry Slade are reinstated as midfield partners while Marcus Smith starts at fly-half as expected.

Bevan Rodd will start at loosehead alongside Newcastle hooker, Jamie Blamire. Joe Marler will provide back-up after his Covid isolation, while Leicester hooker Nic Dolly will make his debut off the bench, where this a 6:2 split between forwards and backs.

Courtney Lawes will captain the side after Owen Farrell (ankle) and Jamie George (knee) were forced to withdraw from the squad with injuries sustained in last Saturday’s 32-15 win over Australia

Eddie Jones said:

“This is our biggest game of the season and the final game of the autumn campaign and we want to finish with a bang.

“We’ve been really pleased with the preparation this week and how the team has continued to develop over the past month.

“Now we want to put on our best performance this autumn in front of a capacity 82,000 crowd at Twickenham.”

5 players who’ve been blacklisted by Eddie Jones – and the reason why

#1. Danny Care

Former England start Kyran Bracken was the first person to reveal why the Quins playmaker was mysteriously frozen out of Jones plans in 2018 despite being a regular up until that point.

“He (Care) made the mistake of speaking his mind to Eddie Jones and questioning how he wanted him to play when he was playing with an England ‘B’ team against Japan in the autumn of 2018,” revealed the former England scrum-half.

“Eddie’s response to that was ‘that’s not the attitude I want’ and he binned him from his plans.”

This story was later backed up by England and Harlequins teammate Mike Brown in his column for the Mail Online.
