“Explosive duo” – Sam Warburton picks his Lions back-row

Lions legend Sam Warburton has given his vote to England flanker Tom Curry for a place in the Lions back row to face South Africa.

Irish pair Tadhg Beirne and Jack Conan miss out in the ex-flanker’s selection, along with Englishman Sam Simmonds and Wales’ Josh Navidi.

“I know they’ll be playing against some big Bokkers, but we have the luxury that we can pick some pretty big front-five forwards.,” said Warburton on  Will Greenwood’s podcast by Sky Sports.

“That’s why England have managed to play Underhill and Curry together, because they have such a big front five and a No. 8 who can ball-carry well.

“So those two can definitely play together because they are so explosive.

“They might weigh 100kg to 104kg but their impact in contact is as if they’re 110kg.

“It doesn’t matter what their size is.”
