Australia’s losing run stretched to six matches as France came from behind to claim victory in the Nations Championship, and Josh Canham endured a difficult afternoon.
The second row was penalised for a high tackle early on before conceding another penalty just before half-time. He also missed two tackles inside the opening five minutes and finished with five missed tackles overall, the joint highest total in the game.
Canham carried with intent and remained influential around the park, but his defensive shortcomings and ill-discipline proved costly. It was a significant step backwards after his impressive display against Ireland last week, when he crossed for a try.
4 Simione Kuruvoli
A needless red card summed up a miserable outing for Simione Kuruvoli in Fiji’s heavy defeat.
The scrum-half’s disciplinary problems extended well beyond his dismissal. He committed three knock-ons, conceded a penalty and was eventually sent off for deliberately stamping on Ellis Genge.
The timing of the red card made it even more damaging. Fiji were building a dangerous attack and eventually crossed for a try anyway.
Had Kuruvoli stayed on the field, they could have taken valuable momentum into half-time and at least given England something to think about.
Instead, Fiji lost the opportunity to add the conversion and were forced to play the entire second half with only 14 men.
