Caio Ifans, the son of former Wales fullback Garan Evans, has signed his first professional football contract with Swansea City.

Evans, a former Scarlets player, was part of Wales’ squad at the 2003 Rugby World Cup. However, he played only a matter of seconds in the tournament, coming on against New Zealand before suffering a neck injury and being stretchered off by paramedics.
He retired from rugby in 2008, while his twin brother Deiniol also represented Llanelli RFC.
Ifans, 18, played rugby during his childhood but has been part of Swansea’s academy setup since joining the club at the age of seven.
His ambition is to break into the first team at the Championship club, and he has moved a step closer to that goal after signing a contract that runs until the summer of 2027.

“It means a lot to me and to my family that I’ve made it this far from being in the academy at such a young age,” Ifans told the Swansea website.
“I also played rugby growing up so I always loved sport, and I’ve come from a sporting family. But I started taking football more seriously when I was getting closer to scholarship age.
“The dream has always been to play for the first team and this is a step in the right direction.”
