Pollock had been relentlessly booed by French supporters throughout the fiery clash in Paris and appeared to relish the pantomime villain role.
So when Tommy Freeman crossed for what looked like a potentially decisive England try, Pollock couldn’t resist. The flanker sprinted towards the stands and mockingly shushed the home crowd, convinced England had landed the killer blow.
But the moment came back to haunt him — fast.
France hit back almost immediately, marching downfield before slotting a crucial penalty to swing the momentum back their way. From there the hosts powered clear, running out dominant 48–46 winners to clinch the Six Nations crown.
It capped a breathtaking encounter packed with drama — 94 points, 13 tries, five lead changes and two yellow cards in a match that had everything.
Yet Pollock’s premature celebration quickly became one of the night’s biggest talking points — especially once England’s hopes collapsed moments later.

Elliot Daly’s afternoon against France summed up the wider dilemma surrounding his England future.
From England’s first two attacking opportunities he kicked possession away — decisions that felt symptomatic of a backline still struggling for attacking clarity. There was a bright moment when Daly delivered a sharp pass that helped create Tom Roebuck’s try, but defensively he was exposed more than once in the wide channels.
The moment Marcus Smith replaced him — and scored almost instantly — only sharpened the contrast.
His outing against Italy earlier in the tournament didn’t do much to strengthen his case either. Daly was solid enough under the high ball but struggled to impose himself on the game and England’s backfield defence looked vulnerable during key moments.
