Joe Marler among England legends making retirement comeback

The Home Opener will be a huge double-header with the club’s first Gallagher PREM home game of the season against Saracens, with one ticket giving fans entry to both games. For every ticket purchased Leicester Tigers will donate £3 to the 745 charities, while Season Ticket Holders will also have the option to donate more to be entered into a draw for money-can't-buy prizes.

The 745 Game will see a team of rugby league legends take on a team of legends from rugby union in a game of modified rules, all in the name of raising money for the fight against motor neurone disease (MND). Players and coaches will be revealed in due course, with fan favourites including Joe Marler, Ben Youngs and Tom Youngs set to feature, along with a host of other stars to be announced shortly.

The game gets its name from three men who have bravely fought MND and their respective rugby shirt numbers - 7 (Rob Burrow), 4 (Ed Slater) and 5 (Doddie Weir).
Three charities will be supported by the fixture, The 4ED Foundation, The Rob Burrow Discretionary Trust and My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

Former Tigers captain Slater is a well-loved and highly respected member of the Tigers family, having captained the club from 2014-16, and the club proudly competes for The Slater Cup with Gloucester to raise money for 4ED, Slater’s charity.

He can’t wait to see the fixture played at his old home. “The 745 Game started as an idea between friends and has grown into something that means so much to so many people.” Slater said. “Every year, it brings together the rugby family to raise awareness and vital funds for those living with MND.”

“Hosting the game at Mattioli Woods Welford Road feels particularly meaningful to me given my connection to Leicester Tigers and the memories I've made there. We want the day to be a celebration of Rob, Doddie and everyone affected by MND, while continuing to push for a future where this disease no longer exists.”
