“Led by example” – Nigel Owens ranks his top six Rugby World Cup captains

Nigel Owens recently revealed his top five captains from matches he has officiated, and his first choice may come as a surprise.

The highly regarded referee, in an interview with Wales Online, explained that he excluded Welsh players from his list since he hasn’t officiated any international matches involving them.

With that in mind, here are my top Test skippers, excluding Welshmen.

Born on June 4, 1986, in Redhill, England, he captained the England national team and spent the majority of his club career with Harlequins. Robshaw’s commitment and leadership made him a beloved figure in the rugby world.

Owens said: Some people will be surprised at this one to start off. His misfortune was perhaps to be leading England during a difficult time, but he always gave everything for the cause, encouraging others to follow suit, and he was a nice guy off the pitch.”
