“Paralysed foot” – Former World Cup captain and Quins star forced to retire with immediate effect

In a statement released yesterday, former Harlequins star Renaldo Bothma explained his reasoning for the earlier than expected retirement.

The 32-year-old, who captained his country Namibia on many of his 16 caps, became a fan favourite at Twickenham Stoop during his three year stint between 2017 and 2020.

“I have been advised not to continue playing rugby by the doctors due to the serious knee injury I suffered back in april. Which has left my foot paralyzed due to the nerve damage.

I still need to undergo one more knee surgery aswell.”
