REPORT | Chris Ashton reportedly set to leave Harlequins

Harlequins speedster Chris Ashton has been rumoured to be “on his way” to Worcester Warriors, according to The Eggchasers Podcast.

The podcast, which is a well respected weekly podcast that airs on Mondays, revealed the link.

Jonathan Beardmore of the podcast said: “I have heard, from a pretty reliable source, that Chris Ashton is on his way to Worcester.”

Ashton joined Quins in February 2020 after leaving Sale Sharks.

The winger has a remarkable scoring record in all competitions including 20 tries in 44 England Tests.

At the time of signing, the former Saracens, Toulon and Northampton star was the Premiership’s third highest ever try-scorer with 86.

LIST | Five senior Harlequins players set for exit in 2021

Here, we look at five Harlequins stars who are out of contract in 2021, and where they’re likely to end up.

1. Danny Care

The scrum-half signed a two-year extension back in 2019, meaning he will be out of contract next year. Care, who currently earn £300,000 per season, has won the Premiership (2012) and the European Challenge Cup (2011) since joining Quins from Leeds in 2006.

The 33-year-old is attracting interest from Major League Rugby franchise San Diego Legion, who have already signed Chris Robshaw, but is reportedly keen to remain in London with ambitious club Ealing Trailfinders identifying him as a possible target after missing out on Richard Wigglesworth.

DID YOU KNOW? At age 11 he was invited to join the Academy at Sheffield Wednesday, where he played with England striker Jamie Vardy, which meant giving up club rugby although he was able to continue playing the game at Prince Henry’s Grammar School in Otley.
