Richard Hibbard signs new deal at Gloucester

  • Richard Hibbard has signed a new contract at Premiership club Gloucester
  • The 32-year-old former Wales international has been at Kingsholm since 2014
  • Hibbard played three times in the victorious British & Irish Lions tour of Australia in 2013
Gloucester Rugby has confirmed that Wales and British & Irish Lions hooker Richard Hibbard has agreed on a new contract to remain at Kingsholm.

The popular hooker is in his third season with the Cherry and Whites having moved from Welsh region the Ospreys in the summer of 2014.

Capped 38 times by Wales, and also a British and Irish Lion, Hibbard brings a wealth of experience to the position and quickly won over the home crowd with his all-action committed displays.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time with Gloucester and, once the club approached me about extending my stay, it was an easy decision to make.” revealed the hooker.

“I feel I’ve improved my game since I arrived. The Aviva Premiership is a tough league, there are no easy games and I think that’s actually benefitted me as a player.

“I love playing at Kingsholm, the club and the supporters have been terrific to me and I’m really happy that I’ll be staying and playing my part in what we hope will be a successful period in the club’s history.”

Gloucester have been looking to secure the futures of a number of their first team squad and Hibbard’s decision is a welcome one admitted Director of Rugby David Humphreys to the club’s website.

“Richard is another key signing for us. We knew we were bringing in an international calibre hooker when he signed, and he’s been a very big part of our forward effort ever since he arrived.

“He brings a wealth of experience and a winning attitude to the side as well as a massive physical presence. We’re very pleased that he’ll be wearing Cherry and White going forward.”
