All Black Fabian Holland reveals first impressions of new boss Dave Rennie

Rennie, who is currently leading Japanese club Kobe Steelers, was confirmed as head coach of the All Blacks this month, following the departure of Scott Robertson.

His coaching résumé includes previous roles with Australia, as well as stints with the Chiefs, Manawatū, Wellington, the New Zealand U20s, and Glasgow Warriors between 2017 and 2020.

Meanwhile, 23-year-old Highlanders lock Holland is currently sidelined with a shoulder injury, ruling him out of the 2026 Super Rugby season.

He was named in the All Blacks squad for the France tour of New Zealand and went on to feature in all six matches of The Rugby Championship, along with appearances during the end-of-year internationals.

Following an impressive debut season on the international stage, Holland was awarded Men’s 15s Breakthrough Player of the Year by World Rugby, finishing ahead of nominees Ethan Hooker, Henry Pollock, and Joseph-Aukuso Sua'ali'i.

Speaking about Rennie, Holland said:

"Awesome, I think he's bringing something new to the group. I've actually never met Dave but from what I've heard, he's very honest and his coach accolades speak for themselves but I think that it's awesome.

"I haven't met him yet but at the moment I think he's got a few thing on his plate right now, assistant coaches and whatnot and he's got a season in Kobe going on. I'm sure we'll meet in due time.

"As do I, still have commitments with the Highlanders at the moment so that's what I'm focused on."
