Bundee Aki transfer saga comes to an end after talks break down

Connacht centre Bundee Aki, who was sidelined for much of the tournament due to suspension, has agreed a one-year deal that will keep him in Ireland until 2027. He had been linked with numerous Gallagher Prem clubs before signing.

Leinster trio Josh van der Flier and Jamison Gibson-Park have both extended their stays through to the end of the 2027–28 season, while hooker Dan Sheehan has signed a longer-term deal running until 2029.

IRFU Performance Director David Humphreys welcomed the news, highlighting the importance of retaining top talent as Ireland build towards the 2027 Rugby World Cup and beyond.

“Securing four key performers on new deals allows us to plan with real confidence,” Humphreys said.

“The fact these players see their futures in Ireland speaks volumes about their ambition, as well as the quality of coaching, medical support and facilities across the provinces.

“These extensions also underline the IRFU’s ongoing commitment to keeping elite talent within the Irish system.”
