"Farrell would be a waste" - Austin Healey picks his Lions bolters

Writing in his column for the Telegraph, he revealed the five 'outsiders' he would name in his squad.

Healey wrote:  "Why not take Smith as a wildcard, with Biggar and Russell being your other fly-halves. Smith's goal-kicking has been excellent, and defensively he doesn't shirk any contact. And he would keep the Lions tradition of taking an uncapped player going."

Healey wrote: "With Brown, you need a rock at the back, someone who never drops the ball. The Lions have an excellent first-choice with Liam Williams - very good under the high ball, someone who adds attacking flair out wide - but Brown in his last season at Harlequins is arguably in the best form of his whole career, better than when Quins won the Premiership title in 2012."

Healey wrote: "He should tour just for his carrying ability. His metres per carry are high, as is his tackle success. And he adds a bit of spice. The last thing this tour needs is to be dull, given there are no crowds."

Healey wrote: "He is probably down as an outsider, but the last time he faced Taulupe Faletau he played the Wales back-row off the field."

Healey wrote: "He might have to prove his fitness in the final few rounds of the Premiership season, but, if you want impact and physicality, there's nobody who can give you more of those qualities than Tuilagi."
