The BBC was once the place millions automatically turned to for Britain's biggest sporting occasions.
Formula 1, the Grand National, The Open and England cricket were all staples of the schedule.
That list has grown again, with the BBC now showing none of England's men's Six Nations matches live on television.
Here are some of the biggest events to have moved elsewhere.
England Six Nations matches
This is the big one for rugby fans.
From 2026, all five England Six Nations matches are shown live on ITV, under the new agreement running until 2029.
The BBC hasn't lost the Championship completely. It still has five men's matches each year, centred around Scotland and Wales home fixtures, except when they host England.
The change was confirmed when the BBC lost the rights to England Six Nations matches, with Gabby Logan reacting to the broadcasting shake-up shortly afterwards.
ITV has since added every match from the Nations Championship in 2026 and 2028 to its growing rugby portfolio.
Formula 1
Formula 1 was synonymous with the BBC for years, particularly during the Murray Walker era.
It returned to the corporation in 2009, but the BBC's live coverage ended after 2015.
Sky Sports is now the main UK home of live F1, while Channel 4 carries highlights and shows the British Grand Prix live.
The Open
Another BBC institution.
The corporation covered golf's Open Championship for decades before Sky Sports took over the live rights.
The BBC still shows highlights, but those long afternoons of live Open coverage are gone.
Grand National, Derby and Royal Ascot
Three of British racing's biggest events disappeared from BBC television together.
The corporation's coverage of the Grand National, Derby and Royal Ascot ended after 2012 when Channel 4 secured the terrestrial racing package.
They later moved to ITV.
The Boat Race
The Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race became the latest familiar event to leave.
Channel 4 took over in 2026, agreeing a five-year deal to broadcast the men's and women's races live.
England international cricket
The BBC briefly brought live England cricket back to terrestrial television in 2020.
That's gone again.
Its current ECB deal includes England men's and women's highlights but no live England international television matches.
The BBC does still have radio coverage, with Test Match Special secured until 2028.
Commonwealth Games
The 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow also moved away from the traditional wall-to-wall BBC treatment.
Warner Bros. Discovery secured the main English-language live television rights, with coverage on TNT Sports and HBO Max.
The BBC still has plenty of major sport – including Wimbledon, the Olympics and part of the Six Nations.
But England Six Nations matches, F1, The Open, the Grand National, Derby, Royal Ascot, Boat Race and live England cricket is quite a list of losses.
