Gatland forced into changes after two Lions forced into isolation after positive test

The incident has forced two players into isolation following close contact with the member of staff.

The entire squad will now undergo an additional round of PCR tests and, providing the results come back negative, the match will go ahead with a later kick-off time of 7pm.

Gatland is expected to announce changes to his team sheet in the coming hours.

"We have followed all necessary precautions since the start of the Tour, which included regular testing and rigorous Covid-19 counter measure planning and protocols," said Lions managing director Ben Calveley.

"Our priority is to ensure the health and safety of the entire touring party, which is why we quickly isolated the players and staff upon receiving the news of the positive result.

"Everyone has subsequently been lateral flow and PCR tested. The Medical Advisory Group await the results of the PCR testing in order to make a decision on tonight's game."

Stuart Hogg (Dead leg): The Scotland captain, who is named among the replacements for the game at Emirates Airline Park, is nursing an injury.

Hogg skippered the Lions to a 56-14 victory over the Sigma Lions in the tour opener in Joburg on Saturday but the tourists will err on the side of caution in terms of the Sharks game and could be removed from the bench.

“Hogg is carrying a little bit of dead leg so we’ll probably make a decision on that in the morning to see how he holds up,” said Steve Tandy, the Lions defence coach.

Tom Curry (Pectoral): The flanker is the only member of the original Lions squad not involved in the first two matches of the tour because of a pectoral problem, but the England flanker has trained all week and is available to face the Sharks today.

Anthony Watson (Toe): The winger has had a jab in a sore toe. Head coach Warren Gatland says it’s just a minor problem that will be managed throughout the tour and nothing to worry about.

Dan Biggar (Knee): The fly-half has been nursing a minor knee problem following his man-of-the-match performance for the Lions in their warm-up victory over Japan at Murrayfield. Gatland revealed the playmaker has had a cortisone injection in his knee.

Robbie Henshaw (Hamstring): The Ireland centre has been ruled out of the British and Irish Lions' fixture against the Sharks on Wednesday because of a hamstring injury.
