England legend Lawrence Dallaglio's 2003 Rugby World Cup winner's medal has sold for a surprisingly modest sum after the former captain put his treasured memorabilia up for auction.
The 54-year-old, who was declared bankrupt in 2025, parted company with one of the most significant items from his glittering rugby career.
According to Mail Online, the medal fetched just £54,000, towards the lower end of its £50,000 to £80,000 pre-sale estimate.
The sale comes more than two decades after Dallaglio helped England make history in Australia.
Financial troubles
The former England and Wasps captain offered several pieces of memorabilia for sale following his well-publicised financial difficulties.
His collection included international caps, medals and awards from his remarkable career.
The collection was offered through sports memorabilia auction house Budds, with the 2003 World Cup medal among its headline lots.
Dallaglio was declared bankrupt in 2025, having previously spoken openly about his financial struggles.
Speaking on the High Performance podcast, he admitted: "I had some financial problems – I could've done things a lot better."
The former number eight won 85 caps for England and represented the British & Irish Lions on three tours.
A piece of English rugby history
Dallaglio started England's famous 2003 Rugby World Cup final victory over Australia in Sydney.
Sir Clive Woodward's side secured a dramatic 20-17 victory, with Jonny Wilkinson kicking the winning drop goal in extra time.
It remains the only occasion England have lifted the Webb Ellis Cup.
Dallaglio was also a central figure in Wasps' golden era, winning multiple domestic and European titles.
Now, 23 years after that unforgettable night in Sydney, his World Cup winner's medal has found a new owner.
And at £54,000, it represents a relatively modest price for a piece of English rugby history.
