His father Bryan Redpath’s nickname as a player was “Basil” and whilst at Sale his son was given the nickname “boom boom” as a result due to the association with the children’s tv character Basil Brush. The nickname has since stuck.

2. Billy Twelvetrees (Gloucester) - 36

Twelvetrees started his career English giants Leicester and it was not long before he was ‘christened’ by their Ireland fullback Geordan Murphy.
“What do twelve trees [threes] make?” said Leicester captain Murphy in his broadest Irish accent. “It’s simple, 36.”

3. Elliot Daly (Saracens) - Briefcase

The England star got his nickname after turned up at his first Wasps training session in his Whitgift school uniform and carrying you know what!

Got his nickname while playing for the London Irish youth team because of his ability to grip the rugby ball one-handed during the game.

5. Joe Launchbury (Wasps) - Slosh, Sloshbucket, or Biscuit

“He has the biggest arse in world rugby – and was forever knocking things over,” according to former England teammate James Haskell. The Wasps captain apparently hates the nickname!
