Marcus Smith reveals the two teams he'd quit Harlequins for

Marcus Smith has previously revealed the two teams he would consider leaving Harlequins for as uncertainty continues to surround the London club.
Quins have endured a nightmare start to the new campaign, with their 48-0 defeat against Gloucester increasing frustration around the Stoop.
There is currently no suggestion Smith wants to leave, with the England fly-half tied down to a long-term contract reportedly running until at least 2028.
However, the 27-year-old has made no secret of his desire to experience rugby overseas during his career.
Speaking to Major League Rugby, Smith revealed that the United States is somewhere he would love to play, even naming two possible destinations.
He said: “Fingers crossed, one year I can play in the MLR. Los Angeles or Miami.”
Smith also explained his connection with the United States, revealing he has family across the country.
“I’ve got a lot of family based in America, some in Los Angeles, some in Minnesota,” he said.
“I used to travel there a fair bit when I was younger. I enjoy the way the Americans do sport.”

Could Smith leave Quins?

Smith's contract means Harlequins are in a strong position, although being tied down to a long-term deal does not make a transfer impossible.
There is also recent precedent for a major club paying compensation to secure an England star.
Racing 92 paid Saracens around €500,000 to secure Owen Farrell in 2024, despite the former England captain still being under contract with the Premiership club.
Any move overseas would currently have major implications for Smith's England career.
Under the RFU's overseas selection policy, players based outside England are generally unavailable for Test selection unless exceptional circumstances apply.
The rule has already affected a number of England internationals, with BBC Sport explaining the restrictions on overseas-based players.
However, the United States hosts the 2031 Rugby World Cup, when Smith will still only be 32.
With Quins struggling and Smith already admitting he would like to experience Major League Rugby, Los Angeles and Miami are two destinations worth remembering.

Five Marcus Smith facts you might not know

Marcus Smith is one of the biggest names in English rugby, but there is plenty fans might not know about the Harlequins star.
From a trial with Tottenham to his mum's hopes of starting a family boyband, Smith has had an interesting journey to the top.
Here are five facts about the England international.

1. He had a trial with Tottenham

Smith could have ended up playing football instead of rugby.
As a youngster, he had a trial with Tottenham Hotspur. He also spent time in Brighton's development system.
However, rugby eventually won.

2. His mum wanted him in a boyband

Smith grew up in a musical family.
He played guitar, while his brothers Luc and Tomas also played instruments.
Their mum even dreamed of turning the three brothers into a group like the Jonas Brothers.
The family reportedly had Wonderwall among their songs.

3. He started at scrum-half

Smith is now best known as a fly-half, but that wasn't always his position.
Because he was small, Smith first played scrum-half.
He later moved to number 10 as a teenager and hasn't looked back.

4. The Hong Kong Sevens inspired him

Smith spent part of his childhood living in Asia.
He regularly watched the Hong Kong Sevens and became a huge fan of Fiji's style of rugby.
Smith would then head home and try to copy the skills he had seen.
His younger brothers often became his opponents.

5. His breakfast raised eyebrows at Harlequins

Smith had to change his diet after entering professional rugby.
One of his favourite breakfasts was fried rice, egg and sausage.
It was based on a meal his mum used to make for him.
Once Smith entered the Harlequins environment, however, his diet became much stricter.
