"My GOAT" - Aaron Smith names Springbok legend as greatest ever scrum-half

The discussion began after RUCK launched a social media poll asking fans to choose the best No.9 of all time, with six legendary names featured in the graphic.

Supporters were divided, with players from different eras all receiving strong backing.

One of the standout reactions came from Smith himself, who was included among the options in the poll. Many fans were quick to name the former All Blacks star as their personal GOAT thanks to his incredible passing game, tempo and success with New Zealand.

However, Smith surprised many by refusing to place himself at the top.

Instead, the 35-year-old pointed to a legendary Springbok scrum-half who he believes set the standard for the position.

Smith wrote: “Fourie Du Preez instead of me. He’s my GOAT. Had it all.”

Fourie du Preez is widely regarded as one of the finest players South Africa has ever produced, helping the Springboks win the 2007 Rugby World Cup while earning praise for his game management, kicking ability and leadership throughout his career.
