Transfer News: Former Scotland captain leaves Top 14 club to return home

Scotland international Jamie Ritchie is set to leave USA Perpignan after just one season, despite arriving last summer as one of the club’s marquee signings.

The French side officially confirmed the Scottish flanker’s departure yesterday, even though he still had a year remaining on his contract under president François Rivière.

In a statement, USAP said the former Scotland captain had decided to return home to Scotland to be closer to his family and children, adding that the club fully respected his decision.

Although injuries and international duty limited his appearances following his move from Edinburgh, Ritchie still made a strong impression within the squad.

Across 15 appearances for Perpignan, including 13 in the Top 14, the 63-cap international brought leadership and experience to a side battling to avoid relegation.

In a farewell video released by the club, Ritchie showed clear emotion while confirming his exit.
