French rugby icon Sébastien Chabal has delivered a brutal admission — he’s suffering from serious memory loss but still refuses to seek medical help.

The fearsome former Les Bleus enforcer, now 47, revealed earlier this year that he cannot remember a single game from his glittering career.

Legend, Chabal said every match he played has been wiped from his memory — despite earning 62 caps for France and starring for Bourgoin, Sale Sharks, Racing Metro and Lyon.

“I don’t remember a single second of a rugby match I’ve played,” Chabal said. “And I don’t remember one of the 62 Marseillaises I experienced.”

Chabal, one of the sport’s most recognisable figures, is among a growing number of former players suffering long-term neurological issues linked to repeated head impacts.

More than 560 retired players—including England World Cup winners Phil Vickery and Steve Thompson—have now signed up to the concussion legal action against rugby’s governing bodies.

The former France forward said his memory has been deteriorating since retiring in 2014, leaving him questioning entire chapters of his life.

“Sometimes I say to my wife, ‘Actually, I wasn’t the one who played rugby,’” he admitted. “I don’t remember anything.”

Despite the seriousness of his symptoms, Chabal revealed he has no intention of seeking medical support.

“Why bother? My memory won’t return,” he said. “I’m rediscovering my life. Before playing rugby, I never realised that I don’t remember anything.”

His comments add yet another powerful voice to the escalating debate surrounding player welfare, concussion protocols and the sport’s long-term duty of care.
