Rugby World Cup star initially handed staggering 26-match ban

The 25-year-old was shown a red card during Uruguay XV's clash with Chile XV in Talcahuano on August 29 after a late tackle on prop Emilio Shea.

Sudamérica Rugby has now confirmed that Myszka was found to have committed a dangerous tackle under Law 9.13, with Judicial Officer Dr Carlos Peña Rachetti suspending him for 13 matches.

The punishment means Myszka, whose Uruguay side have qualified for the 2027 Rugby World Cup, will not play again this year and is due to return in 2027, depending on the playing calendar.

The sanction could have been significantly longer.

Reports in Uruguay state the offence was deemed worthy of a high-end entry point, with an initial punishment of 26 matches.

That was subsequently reduced by 50 per cent to 13 matches after mitigating factors were considered, including Myszka's previous disciplinary record, his admission of wrongdoing and the remorse he showed following the incident.

Myszka reportedly apologised to Shea while the Chile international was waiting in an ambulance and later contacted him on WhatsApp asking if he could visit him in hospital.

The tackle had serious consequences for Shea, who suffered a multi-ligament injury to his right knee and is expected to be sidelined for around 12 months, placing his own hopes of featuring at the 2027 World Cup in doubt.

The incident also sparked a mass confrontation between the two sides.

Uruguay captain Lucas Bianchi and Chile skipper Clemente Saavedra were each handed three-match suspensions, while Ignacio Dotti received a two-match ban.

Myszka has the right to appeal the decision.
