Fullback: Beauden Barrett (New Zealand) - "He is arguably the best player in the world, he is a strike runner and creator and produces very special plays."
Wing: Telusa Veainu (Tonga) - "High quality full-back but much hampered by injuries."
Centre: Jonathan Davies (Wales) - For Wales to do well Davies — the man of the series for the Lions in 2013 and 2017 — must again bring all his class to bear at centre.
Centre: Johan Deysel (Namibia) - Good centre who scored a try against New Zealand at the 2015 World Cup.
Wing: Vasily Artemyev (Russia) - Fleet-footed back, educated in Ireland and played Premiership rugby for Northampton.
Fly-half: Finn Russell (Scotland) - The audacious fly-half is essentially Townsend reincarnate. His style is pretty much how Townsend played although the latter suffered from often being moved to centre, wing or full-back.
Scrum-half: Antoine Dupont (France) - "Gifted scrum-half. Tough, nuggety but with blazing pace on the break and a wonderful step."

Hooker: Agustin Creevy (Argentina) - "Good Argentina teams possess huge amounts of emotion and energy and, for me, their hooker and former captain Creevy is the weather vane for this."

Lock: Eben Etzebeth (South Africa) - "A giant of a man who can seemingly take on opposition packs singlehanded. "
Lock: Leone Nakarawa (Fiji) - "Outstanding lock, his lineout skills will prove invaluable."
Flanker: Maro Itoje (England) - "Slight dip after the Lions tour in 2017 but the Saracens lock is back to his best now. Energy and abrasiveness he brings to the pack is key."
Flanker: Michael Leitch (Japan) - "High quality openside flanker."
Number 8: David Pocock (Australia) - "An extraordinary physical presence at the breakdown with the ability to pull off four or five turnovers per game, especially when working in tandem with Hooper."
