Stuart Hogg set for Montpellier exit as transfer update emerges

Stuart Hogg
Former Scotland captain Stuart Hogg looks set to leave Montpellier next summer, with reports in France suggesting he will not be offered a new contract.
The 34-year-old made a surprise return to rugby in 2024, joining the Top 14 side just a year after announcing his retirement.
However, his time at Montpellier could now be coming to an end.
According to French newspaper Midi Libre, Montpellier are unlikely to extend Hogg's current deal, which expires in June 2027.
No official decision has been made, but the former British & Irish Lions star could soon be looking for another club.

Stuart Hogg's next move

Hogg enjoyed a hugely successful career before initially hanging up his boots in 2023.
He won 100 caps for Scotland and was named Six Nations Player of the Championship in both 2016 and 2017.
The full-back also represented the British & Irish Lions on three tours.
At club level, he helped Exeter Chiefs win a historic Premiership and Champions Cup double in 2020.
His move to Montpellier marked an unexpected comeback, but another move could now be on the cards.
A switch to another French club appears a possible next step, with Hogg having already established himself in the Top 14.
However, no potential destinations have been named at this stage.

Billy Vunipola future also uncertain

Hogg isn't the only big name whose future at Montpellier is under discussion.
Former England number eight Billy Vunipola is also approaching an important decision over his future.
The former Saracens forward joined Montpellier in 2024 after ending his long spell in the Prem.
Both players remain under contract, with Montpellier yet to confirm whether either will be offered fresh terms.
For Stuart Hogg, remaining in France could be an attractive option rather than returning to British rugby.
However, his next move remains uncertain, with Montpellier's final contract decision still to come.
