Three best and three worst England hopefuls from Round 4 of the Premiership

Below, we'll highlight three players whose stellar performances impressed, and three who did anything but.

With Northampton Saints and Wasps still to play, we make our picks for the five games so far this weekend below.

Devon Live: "Looks as fast and as sharp as ever, showing great pace and strength with his tries. Again, this was not the type of game for him to showcase his attacking prowess, but the fact he still finished with two tries is testament to his class. Chipped in with some good defensive work too."

In the court of public opinion, the Harlequin is already named as England’s fly half for the foreseeable future and he shone again on his return against Bristol Bears. Quins powerhouse Alex Dombrandt and speedster Louis Lynagh, who scored another two tries, also impressed on Friday night.

Sent a clear message to Eddie Jones with his dominant performance for Sarries against Newcastle Falcons. As well as being solid in the set piece and dynamic in the loose, Vunipola also grabbed an opportunist try as he took a quick tap and go penalty. His brother Billy and hooker Jamie George also impressed for the home side.

It’s fair to say the Tigers skipper grew into the game against London Irish with a couple of loose moments in the first half, including conceding a penalty that led to three points and being sent back 10 metres for some back chat. Not his finest outing with loosehead-pop rival Vunipola impressing this weekend.

Bristol Live: "Where has the Piers O’Conor of last season gone? The man who was shortlisted from the Premiership player of the season award in 2020/21 just doesn’t look like a threat with ball in hand this season in part because he is being given very little space to work in."

The powerhouse centre looked particularly ineffective as the Warriors were well beaten by Exeter Chiefs. After making a great start to the season, this performance will have done his chances of starting for England this Autumn no favours.
