Since its inception in 1996, the Premiership has changed English Rugby drastically from an amateur sport to a career where you can make serious money.
In 1996, the average wage of a football in the first division was approximately £1,600 a month. Thirty years later, that figure now stands at roughly £3,500.
Below is a list of the five highest paid players in the Gallagher Premiership.

#3. Steve Luatua (Bristol Bears) - £620,000

The former All Black full-back or wing, who surprised many by leaving New Zealand before reaching the peak of his powers, became British rugby’s first million pound man when he moved to Ashton Gate in 2018.
