Overcoming another halftime deficit, England managed to prevail against a spirited Wales team at Twickenham in the Six Nations.

Mirroring their previous match in Rome, England was behind at the break with Wales securing a penalty try and an Alex Mann score, posing a threat to England's first home defeat since 2015.

Fraser Dingwall's corner try narrowed the gap, and George Ford's penalty ensured England's victory. Ford made up for his earlier failure to convert Ben Earl's try in the first half.

15. Cameron Winnett - 7

New boy on the block, read the attacking structure well but was unstuck in defence. Couldn’t stop Earl on his way to the line, but looked dangerous with ball in hand. Skipped passed Elliot Daly in a dangerous line break at 55 minutes.

14. Rio Dyer - 6.5

Blistering pace. Backed himself to run from his own try line to clear the danger after a scrum turnover. Denied a 54th minute try by George Ford, after knocking the ball into touch. Was a menacing presence out wide and caused disruption.

13. George North - 7

Provided heavy crash ball option throughout the contest and his experienced partnership with Tomkins was influential. Flattened over Dingwall with a heavy carry up the middle. Won the battle in the centre channel against the Northampton Saints man.

12. Nick Tompkins - 6

Supplied the ammunition for George North's crash ball's nicely. Offside for a 47th minute penalty, as he was not behind Josh Adams clearance kick. That gifted Ford three points from the tee, as England began to claw back into the match. Strong defence but the spotlight was on his midfield partner.

11. Josh Adams - 6

Marked out wide on the early goings, as Daly had his number on the touchline. Missed a couple of kick passes to his touchline and swamped by covering Slade. Lost the areal battles to Steward. Nailed Elliot Daly into touch to deny him a try at 43rd minute, in what was the stand out moment of his game. Off for Mason Grady (60).

10. Ioan Lloyd - 6

Tried to run a kicking game but struggled to find his wide men in the early goings. Nailed by Itoje at 17 minutes, as he failed to clear his lines in a dangerous position. Improvement will come with familiarity of the test match stage, but the Scarlets man's inexperience was a factor despite some searching lines. Off for Cai Evans (79).

9. Tomos Williams - 7

Took the offload from Reffell to break the line, before supplying the pass for Alex Mann’s try. Sometimes took too long to get the ball going and some box kicks went awol despite a routinely good effort from the boot. Kept the England defenders in two minds about his direction of play. Off for Kieran Hardy (72)

1. Gareth Thomas - 6.5

Kept his nerve and outmanoeuvred Will Stuart to win a key scrum on his 5m at 11 minutes. Yet scrum-time inconsistency followed, as he was penalised for instability with the England pack on the front foot at 41 minutes. Off for Corey Domachowski (59).

2. Elliot Dee - 6.5

Solid early line out despite pressure on his own 5m line. Kicked the ball off the tee to deny Ford his chance at the conversion. A mixed bag at the scrum, as he was overpowered in the middle of the park, but stood tall when it counted close to his line. Off for Ryan Elias (54).

3. Kieron Assiratti - 5.5

Praised by Will Stuart ahead of the match despite inexperience. Took a high hit from Chessum at 11 minutes, yet continued unscathed. Jostled with Marler at scrum re-sets, and took two heavy hits from Sam Underhill. Put his body on the line for Wales today. Off for Archie Griffin (54).

4. Dafydd Jenkins (c) - 7.5

Comfortable to make the line-out calls despite being pinned on try-line in the early goings. Won the front ball battle on Welsh put in. Courageous in contact, and wore his heart on his sleeve for his nation.

5. Adam Beard - 6

Big turnover on his try line at 44 minutes, as he halted England’s early second half serge. Impressive around the park and at the set-piece, but not a performance that had him shining in the spotlight. Off for Will Rowlands (67).

6. Alex Mann - 7

Contributed an important try at 37 minutes, as he supported the running line of Tomos Williams, and marked his second Wales cap with his second test try. Positive signs in his early career goings, the future looks bright for the young back row. Off for Taine Basham (67).

7. Tommy Reffell - 7.5

Excellent work around the park all of the first half. Provided the key break and offload to send Tomos Williams through the gap for Mann’s try. Arguably was Wales' best player today, and builds on his outstanding performances for Leicester and last week against Scotland.

8. Aaron Wainwright - 6

A slower first half from the hard hitting Wales number eight. He restarted his second half by spilling the ball in the early goings and was not as physically dominant in comparison to last week's match against Scotland.

16. Ryan Elias - 5.5

Struggled in the early scrums, but regathered his composure as Wales fought to the finish. Tried to rally his side by orchestrating the mauls, yet England were comfortable to halt the pack drive,

17. Corey Domachowski - 6

Penalised at his first scrum, with his opening involvement seeing Wales unable to hold their weight. Joe Marler was animated on the touchline due to Wales' instability. Provided a safe option to trundle up the hard yards when Wales needed to go through the phases.

18. Archie Griffin - 5

The Bath prospect made his Wales debut, and was just a matter of minutes away from taking on his club teammate Will Stuart at scrum-time. Given a baptism of fire in the front row, as he buckled under the veteran combination of Dan Cole and Ellis Genge. Tried to assert himself in the carry, but would have hoped for more on his test debut.

19. Will Rowlands - 6

Not a great deal of stand out moments from the lock, who replaced Adam Beard for a 12 minute run-out. Made his minutes count with a strong work rate to hit the breakdowns, and was eager to carry against the tired England opponents.

20. Taine Basham - 6

Similar to Rowlands, Basham's 12 minute involvement didn't bring a host of highlights. However the back-row stepped up in the place of Mann, and brought a tempo lift to the tiring back rowers Reffell and Wainwright.

21. Kieran Hardy - 5

Given just eight minutes to make an impact, as England had just etched themselves ahead on the scoreboard. Distributed the ball well on a handful of involvements, but was unable to execute a dramatic late winner to silence Twickenham.

22. Cai Evans - N/A

Given less than a minute of play against England.

23. Mason Grady - 5

The difference making decision on the day, saw Mason Grady attempt an intercept but instead give away a deliberate knock on. George Ford nailed the penalty with Grady sent to the sin bin after just 10 minutes on the pitch. Not his best outing despite showing glimpses of his pace with the ball.
