Will Greenwood names his four 'nailed on' English Lions starters

Will Greenwood has selected his four 'nailed on' England stars to make Warren Gatland's Lions XV to face the Springboks this summer.

The 48-year-old, who rated every English contenders chances of making the squad in his column for the Telegraph, only thinks a small group are guaranteed a spot in the team.

1. Maro Itoje

Position: Second-row

Odds: 1/10

Greenwood wrote: "Itoje looked good against Scotland in a dismal cause, and he was strong against Italy and France. It is inconceivable that he will not be involved. And the captaincy argument is growing.

2. Kyle Sinckler

Position: Tighthead-prop

Odds: 1/7

Greenwood wrote: "England are a completely different Test team with Sinckler present. He is picked for his power but it is his subtlety that is most stark."

3. Tom Curry

Position: Flanker/Number 8

Odds: 1/5

Greenwood wrote: 'The problem is that his competition, Justin Tipuric and Hamish Watson, have been amazing, too. But Curry is special.'

4. Anthony Watson

Position: Fullback/Winger

Odds: 4/7

Greenwood wrote: "Watson looked razor sharp against Italy and France. Players who were good at the World Cup might sway Gatland, too, especially given the unique couple of years that rugby has experienced since."
