Vietnam Stadium Cost
A huge new stadium in Vietnam could soon make Twickenham look small, with plans to hold an incredible 135,000 fans.
The new stadium near Hanoi would be bigger than any major rugby ground in the world.
Known as VinFast Stadium, it is part of a huge sports project said to cost more than £28billion.
Work began in December 2025, with plans to open the stadium in July 2027.
If all goes to plan, it could become the world's largest stadium by seating capacity.

New stadium dwarfs Twickenham

England's home at Twickenham can hold around 82,000 fans. It is one of the most famous grounds in rugby.
However, the new stadium in Vietnam would have room for another 53,000 people.
Wales' Principality Stadium, which holds around 74,000 fans, would also be much smaller.
Even South Africa's famous FNB Stadium would be beaten. The ground has hosted some huge rugby matches over the years.
What makes the plans even more surprising is that rugby is still a small sport in Vietnam.

Could Vietnam host an international rugby match?

Football is the biggest sport in Vietnam, but rugby is slowly growing.
Most of the game is played at local level, with clubs helping young people try the sport.
Groups such as Đại Việt Rugby are helping rugby grow across the country.
Their work includes youth rugby and rugby sevens.
Vietnam is not yet a major rugby nation, but that does not mean it could never host an international match.
Hong Kong has already shown that major rugby events can thrive in parts of Asia where the sport is still growing.
Hong Kong has previously shown how international rugby can attract huge crowds in Asia, with the city becoming a major destination for the sport.
The annual Hong Kong Sevens has helped establish the city as one of rugby's most recognisable international destinations.
The proposed Vietnamese stadium would certainly have the capacity to stage a high-profile international match involving established rugby nations.
Its retractable roof could also make it an attractive option for major sporting events.
There are currently no confirmed plans to stage international rugby at the venue.
However, with the sport continuing to expand across Asia, the possibility of a major international fixture in Vietnam could become an intriguing prospect in the years ahead.
