Transfer Rumours: Mike Williams set for shock Leicester departure

Rugby Inside Line has suggested that Sale Sharks are interested in signing Leicester Tigers’ flanker Mike Williams this summer.

This move will reportedly ensure that Tigers are not over the salary cap for next season.

Born in Bulawayo and brought up in Zimbabwe, Williams joined Leicester Tigers in the summer of 2015 and made an immediate impact with his abrasive ball-carrying and strength in defence.

Comfortable at lock or flanker, Williams collected man-of-the-match awards in successive TV fixtures at the start of the 2015/16 campaign but then broke a bone in his forearm in the win at Worcester in December and broke it again in his return to action at Sale in January, ending his season five months early.

The arm injury affected him again at the start of 2016/17 but he was brought into the England training squad for the Six Nations as he finished the season strongly with Tigers.

English-qualified, Williams joined Tigers from Worcester Warriors after playing his way into the Championship Dream Team for 2014/15 on the way to a promotion play-off final win over Bristol.
