Sale Sharks director of rugby Alex Sanderson has provided an update on Tom Curry's contract situation.
The England back rower is reportedly already in talks with Sale over an extension to his current deal, which expires next summer.
Curry has spent his entire professional career with Sale, making his senior debut as a teenager in 2016 before becoming a key figure for both England and the British & Irish Lions.
Last week, Sanderson confirmed that discussions were underway. This week, he revealed that negotiations are progressing well.
"It's very positive."
Sanderson also provided an update on the futures of several other Sale players, including Bevan Rodd, Luke Cowan-Dickie, Joe Carpenter, Tom Roebuck and Nathan Jibulu.
"Post the signing of all our new recruits, the next job was to retain all our existing core group. We've been plugging away since the Six Nations on that front, and it's all moving very positively. Lots to be released in the very near future."
Sale endured a disappointing PREM Rugby campaign last season, prompting a major overhaul of their squad over the summer.
The Sharks have recruited 12 new first-team players as they look to return to the top four. With that work now largely complete, retaining key members of the existing squad has become the priority.
Curry's injury history has not put Sale off extending his stay. The flanker underwent major hip surgery following the 2023 Rugby World Cup, while further wrist and calf problems have also disrupted his career.
Despite those setbacks, Curry has remained an important player for both club and country.
Playing alongside his brother Ben, he became England's youngest starting flanker in 2017 and quickly established himself at international level.
Curry helped England reach the 2019 World Cup final and win the 2020 Six Nations before earning his 50th cap in 2023. He has also featured on two British & Irish Lions tours.
Keeping Curry at the club beyond the 2027 World Cup in Australia would represent another significant step in Sanderson's plans to maintain continuity within Sale's core squad.
