Scotland vs South Africa player ratings as the Springboks bullied their way to a 30-15 victory in front of a sold out Murrayfield.
An early Finn Russell penalty put the hosts in front before a penalty from Elton Jantjies and an unconverted try from speedster Makazole Mapimpi gave the commanding World Champions a slight advantage.
The Springboks couldn’t turn their dominance into points, and they found themselves 10-8 behind at the break following an incredible score for the Scots.
It all started with a Finn Russell, who converted the try, attempting an audacious cross-field kick that was collected by Duhan van der Merwe and exchanged with Chris Harris before Stuart Hogg roared into dive over between the posts.
However, the Springboks pressure told in the second half as Jantjies converted Mapimpi’s second try before slotting two more penalties to make it 10-21 heading into the final quarter.
Scotland rallied with captain Hogg running in his second try, but the irresistible Springboks held out for yet another win as Handre Pollard and Frans Steyn slotting late penalties.
British and Irish Lions full-back Hogg is now his countries joint top try-scorer as he drew level with Ian Smith and Tony Stanger.
Gregor Townsend’s side conclude their series at home to Japan next weekend, while South Africa take on England.
