Transfer Rumours: Taulupe Faletau reportedly on the move

The Dragons are reportedly mounting an audacious bid to bring Taulupe Faletau back to Wales.

The Bath Rugby and British & Irish Lions number eight is contracted until the summer of 2019, but an insider at the region he signed from has told Wales Online they want him back next season.

“Taulupe didn’t really want to leave the Dragons,” said the source. “If the then regime had offered him £20,000 more a year he would have stayed.

“His situation is akin to when Johnny Sexton left Leinster for France. Johnny didn’t really want to join Racing Metro and couldn’t get back quick enough to Leinster when the opportunity arose.

“As a number of leading Welsh players have also found in the past, the grass isn’t always greener outside Wales.”

An “insider”. Presumably the barman’s Mother’s aunt’s milkman’s budgerigar. Taulupe tried to get a move to Bath years before and was blocked by the WRU. He’s training in the best facility possibly anywhere in the world alongside high calibration players, for a head coach he highly respects. He’s earning a lot of money, living in a beautiful place and playing every match for Wales. Why the hell would he want to give all that up to go back to Rodney Parade, which he was desperate to leave three years ago?
