“Unstoppable” – Australia Women’s Star Smashes Sevens Try Scoring Record

Australia Women’s Rugby Sevens star Maddison Levi, has smashed the record for most tries on a single World Sevens Series. The 21-year-old scored a staggering 57 tries on the 2022/23 World Sevens Series, breaking the previous record of 52 tries.

New Zealand star Portia Woodman held the previous record, which stood since her crowing 2014/15 series. Levi’s incredible scoring rate sees her become the fifth highest points scorer for Australia Women’s Sevens, in just her second year with the side.

Levi completed the feat across 42 sevens matches, which are 14 minutes in duration. She scored eight hat-tricks across the 2022/23 series; three against the USA, two against France, two against Spain and one hat-trick against Brazil. The dual-code Aussie Rules player has certainly established herself as a candidate for the Wallaroos future.

The midfielder plays for the Gold Coast Suns AFL team, having joined up with the side ahead of the 2021/22 season. However, now she has caught the attention of the Australian rugby union fanbase, Wallaroos fans could well be calling for her code switch to rugby union before too long.

Australia’s Wallaroos are about to embark in the inaugural WXV competition, and will feature in either the WXV 1 or WXV 2 divisions. Their placement will depend on where they seed in the upcoming Pacific Nations Four competition, as they take on the Black Ferns of New Zealand, the United States and Canada.
