Wales Player Ratings vs Scotland: Visitors Remain Winless After Bonus-Point Defeat at Murrayfield.

Scotland bagged five tries in a thrilling Six Nations showdown at Murrayfield, keeping Wales firmly in their place with a 16th consecutive loss. But it wasn’t all smooth sailing for the hosts. While they dominated for most of the game, Wales launched a dramatic late comeback that almost flipped the script.

With 18 minutes left on the clock, Wales erupted with three unanswered tries—each one converted—dragging the game from a stroll to a nail-biter. The Scots, who had been in cruise control, saw their composure unravel as the game turned on its head.

Despite the fiery late charge, Wales’ efforts came up short, and Scotland claimed a third straight Six Nations win over the Welsh—something they haven’t done since 1991.

And while the win wasn’t without drama, Wales did snatch a couple of bonus points from the chaos.

Wales player ratings vs Scotland:

15. Blair Murray - 5.5

The New Zealand-born utility back has shined so far in this year’s championship, and this performance against Scotland was slightly below par but he still looked dangerous with ball in hand. The 23-year-old looked comfortable controlling the backfield and was rewarded for his efforts as he crossed over after regathering a kick in behind from Gareth Anscombe.

14. Tom Rogers - 3

Rogers scored his first international try with a picturesque finish last timeout but had his time on the pitch at Murrayfield cut short after going off for an HIA and never returning as Joe Roberts replaced him on 8 minutes.

13. Max Llewellyn - 5.5

The Gloucester Rugby man, who was left out of Warren Gatland's initial Six Nations squad, proved again why he should’ve been picked in the first place. On some occasions, when he took the ball into contact, he would get over the gain line to put his side on the front foot, and then he secured Wales a losing bonus point as he crossed over with the clock in the red.

12. Ben Thomas - 5.5

He was excellent in defence, ran some good lines and was great at quickly offloading the ball. The Cardiff Rugby man showed great skill to crossover for just his second international try late into the second half.

11. Ellis Mee - 5

After he made his international debut against Ireland, it must be said he was below-par and had a quiet game against Scotland. He showed some signs of what he did against Ireland as he seemed to had grown into the game, but honestly, I wanted to see more from the 21-year-old.

10. Gareth Anscombe - 5

He got sold a dummy by his opposite number, Finn Russell which resulted in them crossing over. However, early on, he put in some tremendous contestable kick as Wales looked to get upfield, but like many players in this Player rating, it was below par.

9. Tomos Williams - 5

omos didn't do anything eye-catching but was good at keeping up the tempo of Wales’ attack, getting them on the front foot several times. Unlike against Ireland, he eventually came off late into the game but personally thought his work rate needed to be higher.

1. Nicky Smith - 4.5

For the first time since the summer of 2021, Smith started consecutive matches, and it must be said that his performance against Ireland deserved it. While he didn’t reach the levels of his last outing, he was lively in defense, which, at times, stopped the onslaught of the hosts’ attack.

2. Elliot Dee - 5

When it came to lineout time, his throws were accurate, which served as a catalyst for Wales to try to build from. He put in a great shift, especially around the breakdown area, but was eventually replaced by Dewi Lake.

3. WillGriff John - 3

He was active around the pitch, but what let him down was a silly yellow card, which added unnecessary pressure onto his side as the hosts were in the red zone.

4. Will Rowlands - 4

The Racing 92 man was playing his 40th game for Wales this afternoon, but like many games this Championship, he underperformed. He made some huge carries but ultimately didn’t make much of an impact.

5. Dafydd Jenkins - 4.5

He was a great asset in the lineout, but like his counterpart in the second row, he didn’t make much of an impact apart from some big hits in defence.

6. Jac Morgan - 8

Morgan, who has been the standout performer in this Wales side despite their torrid run of form, shined again in the Scottish capital. He set the tempo early for his counterparts to draw inspiration from, as he made a significant hit on Duhan van der Merwe and was a great asset around the pitch for the full 80 minutes.

7. Tommy Reffell - 6.5

Reffell looked disappointed when he was taken off early in the second half. He did a lot of the unseen work around the breakdown area, but perhaps Morgan’s standout performance overshadowed what was a decent showing from the 25-year-old.

8. Taulupe Faletau - 6

The experienced number eight won his 107th international cap this afternoon—only bettered by Alun Wyn Jones, Gethin Jenkins, George North, and Dan Biggar. It seemed, against the Irish in his last outing, that Faletau had returned to his best, and he continued that form against the Scots. He was of good quality in both attack and defense, where he made several eye-catching carries and hits.
